Note from the artist: I describe myself as a multi media, multi-dimensional conceptual artist and I set my sights on the Still story. When construction of the museum began my studio was located in an old church (now the site of the Vance Kirkland Museum) across the street from the new CSM. I, like most others, had never heard of Still and was fascinated by his saga. I began emulating his style as a sort of homage to his work. My interest in construction led to photographic cataloging of the building process. I then digitalized and attempted to duplicate Still’s style with specific manipulations while concurrently, producing a prodigious amount of paintings in the Still style. As a project based conceptualist, the Still homage checked a lot of boxes for me, including what I thought was a phenomenal approach of Brad Cloepfil’s structure that would house the Still collection. - Bob Coates
